125 Of English Football

When this seasons various English Leagues kick off it will represent the 125th year of League football in England. The FA will mark this with six significant games across all leagues, except the Premier League, on the opening day. The Leagues below the Premier League actually kick off two weeks earlier and in the Championship you can see Burnley take on Bolton and Derby against Blackburn. Burnley actually played Bolton in the second week of that first season but the game is significant because it involved the first hat-trick in league play.

Premiership Prediction (Part Four)

With the start of the 2013/14 Premiership season just around the corner I thought I would take a look at the various teams and the transfers in and out. What can the supporters of each team really expect from the upcoming season.
Each day I will take five teams in what will be a four part preview. Yesterday I looked at current Champions Man Utd, Newcastle, Norwich City, Southampton and Stoke City. Today we have the final part as I look at Sunderland, Swansea, Tottenham, West Brom and West Ham.

Premiership Preview (Part Three)

With the start of the 2013/14 Premiership season just around the corner I thought I would take a look at the various teams and the transfers in and out. What can the supporters of each team really expect from the upcoming season.
Each day I will take five teams in what will be a four part preview. Yesterday was Everton, Fulham, Hull, Liverpool and Manchester City. Today it is the turn of current Champions Man Utd, Newcastle, Norwich City, Southampton and Stoke City.

MLS: A Proposition

At the Sport Park, home of Sporting Kansas City, the annual soccer spectacle known as the MLS All Star game took place recently. The result of the match was the visiting European team, Roma, ended up beating the All Stars 3-1, something that hasn‘t happened much since this format of inviting European clubs to participate. Growing up with European soccer as I did I really didn’t start out too keen on these types of games in the middle of a league season. I really do not see how a spectacle and promotion of the MLS brand it really works for countries outside the USA.

Premiership Preview (Part One)

Each day I will take five teams in what will be a four part preview. Today I will start with Arsenal, Aston Villa, Cardiff, Chelsea and Crystal Palace. Two promoted sides from last season, two teams with title aspirations and then Villa, who will be looking to improve on last seasons dismal run.

USMNT: My Thoughts

It was almost a certainty that the US Men’s National team would be one of the names in this years Gold Cup Final. The running joke is that with the Gold Cup all the teams play and then the US an Mexico meet in the Final. In fact since it’s inception in 1991 only Canada in 2000 won the competition and joined the other two as winners. Not since 2005 will the Final pit the United States against a team other than Mexico, which incidentally was the last time Mexico missed out on the Final.
