The Great Flood!

My girlfriend had left for a few nights to stay with one of her friends down in Annapolis and I was left up in Pennsylvania to work my regular day job. The landlords had been informed months ago about a cracked tub in our bathroom and it was a few days ago that it was decided they would come in and replace it, hence the girlfriend going away. I bet you thought maybe I had done something wrong! I know that's what you thought, well no I didn't. This time for once I can be like the singer Shaggy and say 'It wasn't me!'

So like I said I was out all day working at my regular job and was about done for the day (around 3pm) when my boss called and asked if I could go to one last location and help out one of my co-workers. Of course I accepted, I need the money! I'm only a writer you know.

Fast forward a few hours and the time is now about six and I am heading home, stopping to pick up some dinner on the way home (girlfriend is away remember). My girlfriend calls as I am about to get to the house and so I take the call. She is having fun and I will be seeing her within the next couple of days when I go down to pick her up.

Well as I turn the corner to the house I can see that something isn't quite right. I pull into our parking space in front of the house and put the car in park. AS I get out of the car I can hear water.

Still it isn't clicking with me that the water sound is actually coming from OUR house! It soon becomes clear though when I notice that both the upstairs windows have condensation on them. I quickly explain to my girlfriend that something is up and that I will call her back later.

When I get inside I drop my dinner (it's ok, it's all in separate plastic containers) and run upstairs. When I turn the corner and head to the bathroom I see that the light is still on and our broken tub has been removed.

The scenario that faces me you couldn't even make up if you tried as no one would believe it. It seems that the workmen had removed the old tub with relative ease but had neglected to tighten/check all the various pipes. Also, the second strike was that they had failed to turn the water off at the master and so now a slight, but strong, mist of water was being sprayed all over the floor.

I turned and ran down the two flights of stairs to get to my room where the main water tap was, and turned it off. Instantly I could hear the water, FROM TWO LIGHTS UP, stop. I then proceeded to survey the damage throughout the house. The pictures in this blog are from my writing/drawing room, two levels down from the burst pipe.

Fortunately the damage to the whole of our possessions were minimal and to the man cave it was limited to various bits of paper and some coursework as yet unfinished. Fact is it could have been a whole lot worse and for the house it really looks as though it is in need of some serious work.

Just so you know, I did call the landlady, who sent her husband around who was on scene within a few minutes. However it does look as though we may have to relocate while this whole rebuild/repair is taking place.
