Well I have finally decided that one of my books is ready to go. Certainly no illustrations but hopefully if it is picked up by a publisher then they could hook me up with a professional.
Well today I got a phone call from a publisher and I really wasn't expecting it at all. We talked about the book for a little bit but I got the impression that maybe they hadn't really read the outline I had sent them.
I was also at work at my day job and so I asked if it would be possible for them to call me back at a later time, when I was home, no distractions and everything to hand. The guy on the other end of the phone said this was fine and he looked forward to talking with me more in depth about my 'exciting book idea'.
Great right? Not so fast there Scooter! Once I got home I checked my email and had received numerous emails from the same company, but different people, all saying the same thing he had said on the telephone with me. I looked up the company and they were only into self publishing. Not that I have a problem with that and that it isn't the route I may end up going, but something didn't sit right with me about the whole thing.
Just a little while ago I got off the phone with the same guy who said he would call me back. The guy himself was very nice, helpful and we spent maybe twenty minutes to half an hour going through various options at the company. This guy was straightforward and honest about the whole deal and everything was clear. I would have to pay for the book to be done and they had numerous 'marketing tools' that would help me get the book out there.
Actually it sounded really good and I was pumped. I will have to talk to my fiance about the whole deal but if they play me straight then I think I could certainly work with them.
