Promotion And Relegation - Vanarama National League

It is starting to become crunch time in all the various divisions of the English soccer scene. Teams vying to save themselves from relegation at one end of the tables. Each day I will look at the divisions within the English game, starting with the Vanarama National League and moving up until the Premier League .

Today, being the first day, I will look at the Vanarama National League. Looking at relegation, this league sees four sides drop down. Kidderminster, with six games remaining along with Welling, look likely to go down. Although neither side are mathematically relegated as yet, their current standings mean they need twelve from eighteen and eight from fifteen points respectivly just to be level with the side currently in the last safety spot.
Assuming those two do not do an amazing escape act it leaves the six teams directly above them to battle away from the remaining two spots. Chester start in a good position being five points above that first relegation spot while Boreham Wood have a significant goal difference advantage if they end up level on points, and that being the difference between staying up or going down. That leaves Torquay, Altrincham. Halifax and Guiseley to battle it out. For my money I’d go with Altrincham and Guiseley joining Kiddeminster and Welling in relegation.

Only one automatic promotion spot and it really looks like one of two sides, Cheltenham or Forest Green. The team finishing lowest out of these two will still be in with a chance of automatic promotion and I can see them joining Tranmere, Wrexham and Grimsby to battle it out for that second spot, via a playoff. I can see Grimsby facing Cheltenham in the final after the sides defeat Wrexham and Tranmere respectively
