Well as you know if you have been following my blog I have been taking this whole writing books for Children thing pretty seriously and I do have the great backing of my Fiance who, although we do not have a whole great deal of spare cash, has been behind me 100% from the very beginning. It was her that encouraged me to start the course and now she has done the same with joining SCBWI. The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
I am hoping that by joining this group I will get to meet and talk with other Children's Writers and maybe get some sense as to where I need to be. Maybe I can link up with some other like minded people, bounce ideas off and maybe make a few connections that will pay off in the future. In life you never know exactly what door you should go through to make things happen so my philosophy is to walk through every single one!
SCBWI was formed in 1971 by LA based Children's Authors and is a non profit organisation. It encourages the exact thing I was looking for with the exchange of ideas etc and has roughly 70 regional chapters which have meetings every so often.
Now there are two PA chapters but I am not too sure which ones I could go to. I think that as long as I can get there and have the proper membership card I could probably go to any of the chapters, but that is something I will have to find out at a later date.
Hopefully I will be able to because there is a meeting and talk with author Mary Quattlebaum and it would certainly be interesting to hear what someone who has made it has to say about the process. I will keep you guys informed.
