Now my first book is done and I actually have a physical copy in my hand it is time to let the world and his dog know about it. There are many ways to go about it and setting up a social media presence is just one small cog in the promotional wheel.
However, in order to get people to the site and then buy the book they first have to know that it is actually out there. It would be blind luck if numerous people suddenly and very randomly typed in YOUR name into their computer, which may pull up your book.
Radio ads and TV spots are out of the reach of most of us when we have only just published our first book so where to go. Well, I thought Newspapers. Now I do not mean the Washington Post or New York Times (although that would be great) because with limited space these publications are very unlikely to give you the time of day.
The best route, and the one I started to pursue today is the locals. These are chomping at the bit to be the first ones to discover new talent, new LOCAL talent that is.
With that in mind I went online, got to my favorite search engine and typed in 'local Newspapers' followed by my Zip. 'Ba-Ding' up popped two or three pages of local papers (within 100 miles!) complete with contact email addresses, phone numbers, names and building locations. All that was needed then was a decent email to them and some time and patience. Hope to hear back from some soon.
