Brek Shea Moves On Loan To Barnsley

The American, Brek Shea, has been taken by Barnsley on a 28 day loan from his parent club Stoke City. With hopes of making the US Men's National team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann's head turn it is essential Shea starts getting game time.


The first game with his new club took place on New Years Day where he made a start for his new club, bottom of the Championship, Barnsley. After getting only three starts for Stoke City in the Premier League since joining from FC Dallas in January last year, it must be great for the young American to finally get a good 75 minutes under his belt.

His new side, struggling in the second tier of English football, may want to extend the deal after the 28 days. In that 28 days Manager Danny Wilson will get to see a lot of Brek as the games continue to come at rapid pace. Next up for Barnsley is a trip away to fellow strugglers, Charlton Athletic. Two home fixtures against Blackpool and Blackburn are sandwiched either side of another away game to current FA Cup holders Wigan Athletic. 

This Saturday will be quite interesting with Barnsley taking on Coventry in the FA Cup. If Shea is used in this game then he will be cup tied on his return, if he returns, to Stoke. On a personal note I think this is a great move for the player, both clubs and potentially the US Men's team come June. Unlike the Clint Dempsey two month loan to Fulham, this one does not make me nervous.
